Educate

Educating ourselves about domestic abuse can make all of the difference.

Here are some tips about what you can do and say to help those in abusive situations:

  • Tell them it is not their fault. Domestic abuse is never the victim’s fault.
  • Ask for help. Provide our billingual crisis line telephone numbers: (520) 795-4266 or (888) 428-0101 toll-free.
  • Be concerned for their safety. Let them know that there are resources available.
  • Believe them. Your reaction can affect their decision to share it with others.
  • Don’t tell them what to do. Encourage them to make their own decisions.
  • Don’t confront the abuser. Confronting the abuser will probably put the victim in greater danger.
  • Respect their choices. Try to help them decide what they want to do, and support them in their choice (whether or not you agree with it).
  • We invite you to participate in one of our community education classes. Call (520) 795-8001 today to reserve your spot in our next class.
