Community Education
Emerge! Center Against Domestic Abuse offers educational presentations and trainings about domestic abuse to community members and organizations. The purpose of this Emerge! service is to increase awareness about domestic abuse by defining abuse, dispelling its myths, and by providing information to help avoid abuse, help end abuse, and help others hold abusers accountable.

Educational Presentations
Our educational presentations are free and are generally one to two hours in length. To request a presentation, please contact Emerge! Educator, Maritza Rivera Cohen at maritzarc@emergecenter.org or 520-512-5232.
Domestic Abuse 101
This presentation provides a thorough overview of the dynamics of domestic abuse, including a definition of domestic abuse, power & control, effects of abuse on children, how to help, safety planning, and Emerge! services. This overview is great for community groups, college students, faith-based groups, social service organizations, and work sites.
Healthy Relationships
This presentation encourages participants to explore the components of healthy relationships. Attendees participate in activities to help identify the qualities they look for in their own relationships and whether these are part of a healthy relationship. Participants also articulate their reasons for decisions they make about their behaviors in relationships and consider how to promote healthy relationships in the community. Great for elementary, middle, and high school students.
Emerge! Services (30 minutes)
An in-depth overview of services and programs offered by Emerge! Center Against Domestic Abuse and how to access them. Best for service providers who refer clients to Emerge! and need detailed information.
Workshops
Our workshops go beyond the information provided in our educational presentations. More in-depth information, along with opportunities to develop skills to help victims of abuse, are provided. To schedule a workshop, contact Emerge! Educator, Maritza Rivera Cohen at maritzarc@emergecenter.org or 520-512-5232.
Domestic Abuse 101
This workshop provides an in-depth examination of the dynamics of domestic abuse. At the end of the workshop, participants are expected to be able to define domestic abuse; list tactics that an abuser might use to control a victim; list barriers to leaving an abusive situation; know how to help or support someone experiencing domestic abuse, including safety planning and Emerge! services; and understand family, community, and/or societal structures that support or prevent domestic abuse. Ideal for service providers and others who work directly with victims of domestic abuse. This workshop is a minimum of three hours in length.
Effects of Violence on Children
Children are often witnesses to the abuse of a parent and are profoundly affected. This workshop will enable participants to understand risk and protective factors that determine how severely a child is impacted by abuse, to understand the behaviors that children who have witnessed abuse might exhibit, to explain how abuse affects family dynamics, and list parenting challenges faced by the victim as a result of the abuse. Ideal for service providers and others who work directly with victims of domestic abuse. This workshop is a minimum of three hours in length and participants must have already attended the Domestic Abuse 101 workshop.
Upcoming Workshops
Emerge! offers two workshops on an ongoing basis. These are free and open to the public. (Survivors seeking support services please contact Voices Against Violence at 520-881-7201.) Advanced registration is required for workshop participation and a minimum of 8 participants is needed to conduct each training session. Please contact Emerge!
