We want you to be safe during and after an abusive incident.

When an abusive person is there…

  • Stay our of rooms with no exit
  • Avoid rooms that may have weapons
  • Stay near a phone
  • Know your escape route

When preparing to leave…

  • Remember this is the most dangerous time in an abusive relationship
  • Create an extensive safety plan, and if age appropriate, a safety plan with your children
  • Find a safe location to store important items
  • Plan with whom or where you can stay
  • Memorize the 24-hour crisis line, or know where you can find it
  • Seek assistance from a domestic abuse specialist

After leaving the abusive person…

  • Inform neighbors, landlord, employer, school, friends, and family of your situation
  • Change locks on doors and windows
  • Change your telephone number, screen calls, and block caller ID
