Volunteer
Invest your time, skills, talents and passion with us. The return is immeasurable.
Through our Purple Ribbon Volunteer Program, you can be a part of stopping the cycle of domestic abuse. And our internship opportunities provide college students with supervised practical experience to develop their professional skills and increase their experience and understanding.
Our volunteer and internship opportunities include:
Direct Service
- Provide support to participants via shelter support
- Help prevent abuse through outreach, community education, and more
- Assist in the care of children ages two months to twelve years
- Help with the Making It Better program for children and families moving beyond abuse
Please note: most direct service intern/volunteer positions require a full year commitment, regardless of your school’s requirements.
Indirect Service
- Assist administrative staff with clerical duties
- Help with translation of documents and interpretation of languages
- Assist the Environmental Services staff with the upkeep and repair of our various sites
- Are you a survivor? Serve on the Speakers Bureau - share your story of healing and life after abuse
- Much more!
Occasional and Special Projects
- Assist with seasonal and special events, such as the Holiday House event or United Way Days of Caring
- Assist in obtaining and distributing in-kind donations or holding third-party events such as a cell phone or diaper drive
- Help with writing grants and identifying potential new funding sources
- Much more!
How to Apply
Please note: If you are a former Emerge! participant/client, you must wait one year after last receiving services before volunteering.

- Download the Volunteer Reference Form here. Three references (one personal, two professional) are required for all volunteers and interns, but do not need to be submitted with your application. They may arrive later in the process.

After you have returned your completed application, the Volunteer Services Coordinator will contact you to set up a personal interview to discuss your interests and availability and to schedule you for training. If you have not heard from Emerge! within two weeks of submitting your application, please contact us.
