Making it Better Group

Who is it for? Making it Better is for mothers and children who are survivors of domestic abuse.This group is intended for mothers that have children who will also be attending.  Alternative services are available for mothers who don’t have their children with them.   

 

What is it? Making it Better is a series of educational support groups for parents and children who have been victimized by domestic abuse. The parent group is facilitated by staff from Emerge! Center Against Domestic Abuse, and children’s groups are led by staff and trained internship students. 

 

Children’s groups focus on teaching problem solving, anger management and communication skills.Teenagers learn about gender stereotypes, coping skills, and healthy dating relationships.Parents discuss how domestic abuse has affected family relationships and learn tools to strengthen relationships with their children.  

 

Where is the group? The Angel Children’s Center, 4101 E. 22nd St (near Alvernon/ 22nd)


What is the purpose? To help parents and children strengthen their family relationships, learn coping skills, reduce isolation and break the cycle of abuse.

 

How much does it cost? The program is free and children’s groups are provided for all ages.

 

How do I sign up? Please call 881-7201 in advance to register and complete a phone intake. The group will be closed to new members after the 2nd session so be sure to sign up right away!
